Our School

General Information

At Foothill, students are challenged to grow in an atmosphere of being Respectful, Responsible and Safe.  Student achievement is our focus.  Our staff is dedicated to working with all students to promote academic success.

Sixth grade students ease into secondary education at Foothill.  The transition is smooth with the help of teams of staff members working together to help students adjust to middle school.  Sixth grade students are provided with an interdisciplinary core academic program.  All Sixth Grade Students participate in P.E. and to broaden student experience, electives in choir, band, orchestra, fine arts, AVID, math and reading are available.

Seventh and eighth grade students participate in a traditional secondary core curricular program in science, math, language arts, and social studies.  Foothill’s current mathematics curriculum of Math 7 and Math 8 is designed to prepare students to take Algebra 1 in High School.  All students participate in P.E. and may take the following electives:  AVID, Band, Orchestra, Art, Music Appreciation, Spanish 1, Spanish for Native Speakers, Leadership, and reading intervention.

Foothill honors student success through Student of the Month and Renaissance recognition.  Students’ names are posted on the school marquis for all to celebrate.  The Renaissance program rewards academic achievement according to grade point average.  Platinum, gold, silver, and bronze card holders enjoy on-going school privileges which include: first in line passes, treats, social activities, community discounts, and a year-end trip to an amusement park.

The cooperation and caring of staff and parents for the total academic, social, and emotional well-being of students makes Foothill a successful place to transition from elementary to high school.

Fall Sports Try-outs

The 2018-2019 sports season is about to begin.  Our 7th and 8th grade volleyball and football teams are having their try-outs this week.  Our cheer leading squad is practicing their routines and moves.  Go Trojans!!

Foothill Middle School celebrated college month with its second annual March Madness event.  The competition began on Friday, March 16 and ended today with Mr. Bazyouros' class (Stanford) taking the championship.  Each homeroom selected a college of their choice and created posters and banners and even dressed students as Mascots.  During the March Madness competition, two homerooms compete against each other and are awarded points for baskets made, sportsmanship, mascot, and spirit (wearing school colors, chants, banners, cheering, signs and good representation of college). The winner of each round moves on to the next bracket, where finally two teams compete for the the March Madness Championship Trophy.  The two finalists today were Mrs. Santana's class (Occidental College) and Mr. Bazyouros' class (Stanford).  It was a close game and because both teams scored equally in sportsmanship, mascot and spirit points, it came down to baskets made.  Great job to all the homerooms for their hard work and spirit.  We are looking forward to next year's March Madness event.

Congratulations 8th Grade Boys Basketball on an Undefeated Season and Azusa City Champions

Congratulations 8th Grade Boys Basketball on an Undefeated Season and Azusa City Champions
Foothill Middle School's 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team cruised through the Azusa City Boys Middle School Tournament.  They had an undefeated season and will represent Azusa in the San Gabriel Valley Boys Basketball Tournament.  Great Job, Trojans!  From left to right:  Marc Paredes, Ernesto Torres Jr., Noel Bugarin, Jaime Caldera, Andrew Hidalgo, Richard Berumen,  Aaron Albarran, Eddie Sierra Jr., and Jonathan Iniguez.  Standing behind the team is coach Dave Swatek.

Parents completed 5 weeks of Families in Schools: Transitions to High School workshop.  The workshop was delivered by Foothill Middle School parents Marina Munoz, Nora Gonzalez, Delia Vallejo, and Lizzy Castaneda.  The workshop topics included Parent Involvement, Adolescent Development, Succeeding Academically, Preparing for College, and High School Graduation Requirements.  The parents also received a completion certificate.

During Coffee with the Principal, Tracy Spencer, Middle School Math TOSA, assisted parents with creating a CPM parent account.  This account is very useful to parents in that it allows parents to access their child's book online, along with homework help and other math resources.

On May 24th and 25th, some of Foothill Middle School's students performed in Disney's Lion King Kids production. They worked very hard for over a month to memorize their lines and parts. The play was directed by Michael Adam and was a huge success.  Both shows were sold out. The lead roles were filled by 8th graders Guadalupe Gonzalez-Bucio as Scar, Maurice Gutierrez as Simba, Gabriel Castellanos as Mufasa and Jesse Lara as Nala.  7th Grader Ashton Ceballos and 6th Grader Sean Brennan stole the show with their performances as Timon and Pumba, respectively.

Greetings from Mr. Perdomo!

Mr Perdomo

I would like to welcome you to the start of the 18-19 school year!  I am eagerly anticipating yet another successful and rewarding year.  I am looking forward to working with an amazing and dedicated staff, students and our parents and community to provide an exceptional educational experience for Foothill students.

Hello

Hello, I'm Mr. Oyama, the new Assistant Principal at Foothill Middle School.  This is my second year with Azusa Unified and FMS.

Prior to coming to Foothill I worked in the San Mateo-Foster City School District for 11 years.  Nine of those years were spent teaching at Fiesta Gardens International School, a dual immersion Spanish program.  My final two years in the Bay Area were at Abbott Middle School where I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade newcomer students.

I am very happy to be working with an amazing group of caring teachers and support staff in this thriving community.

Hola from Mr. Scott!

It is great to be working at Foothill Middle School once again.  As the school's counselor, I look forward to working with the entire Foothill Middle School community as we continue to create a positive academic and social environment.  For the past 26 years, I have worked in the Azusa Unified School District, and I consider it a privilege to now work at a school site that I consider home.  Thank you all for giving me such a warm welcome.

Congratulations to the PBIS winners: Marisol Mesa, Genesis Davis, Ailani Ramos, Carlos Sanchez.
PBIS raffles are done weekly, per triad, each semester. This was the end of the semester raffle and prizes were two $10 Starbucks cards, one $25 Amazon card, and one Penny Board. Students earn Trojan Tickets for demonstrating Responsible, Respectful, and Safe behavior and deposit their earned tickets in a drawing of their choice. They can also save their tickets to spend at our Trojan Store.
